I write Hecimal.

Most of what appears here begins with a question I cannot quite put down: why a ritual survives long after the belief that gave rise to it, why an argument settled centuries ago returns wearing new language and new machinery, or why ideas we think of as modern often have much older echoes.

I tend to read across boundaries rather than deeply within a single field. These essays are, in that sense, the work of someone catching up in public: following threads through history, philosophy, religion, science, and technology, and seeing where they unexpectedly meet.

I am less interested in arriving quickly at an answer than in staying with a question long enough for it to become more interesting.
